It’s amazing what you can find on the web. I came across these creative graphic manipulations and decided I would try to do something similar tonight. It’s been a while since I created a non-out-of-the-box graphics. What I love about these graphics is how surreal they are. My imagination goes wild just seeing them. If you’re about to design a website or write an article, browse through this collection first to keep those creative juices flowing.
You can see a longer list here.

New founds via Twitter. The article is a compilation of 30 design inspirations featuring Nike but a preview of some of them can be seen below.
They just makes you want to open your favorite Graphic software and start creating something right? I know I do.

Check out this great compilation of very creative websites selling t-shirts.
The first thing that you’ll notice about these sites is their great design. Most e-commerce websites use cookie-cutter designs but these online shops below are very colorful, graphic-intensive and uses styles from grungy, modern, eclectic, dark, light but never boring.
Now that’s creativity.

I am loving twitter. In the past five days, I’ve learned so many things that I’m dying to try out on my new projects. It’s a huge world out there and I was a fool for not following as many people as I can for the past year. I’m still keeping my main twitter account private so I can discuss things there that are strictly for friends only. As for my public account, feel free to follow me at joytreyes.
Here’s one example of why I am loving twitter. A great tutorial for a web design layout created in Photoshop. Check it out, you could learn a thing or two and might be confident enough to start with your own website.

Tomorrow is the big day. I’m meeting up with the site owner and present what I’ve done so far. So far, nothing much. But not from lack of trying. One, the ftp logins were incorrect, two, there was no available copy that I can use for the site and three, there’s just no enough feedback. But I will do my best to troubleshoot the issues today and make it look like the site is half finished. So for my to-dos: (This is important so I’d know how productive I am)
1. Setup a sitemap using the current site’s pages.
2. Use current site’s text to populate the backpages of the site in progress.
3. Customize registration, billing and shipping forms.
4. Troubleshoot IE6. The site keeps on crashing and I’m thinking it has to do with sifrs.
5. See how easy it will be for the client to add flash elements using the content editor.
I have the whole day to do all these but I also have plenty of distractions threatening to wreck this carefully laid out schedule.

Everywhere I look, there are companies closing and employees being laid off. It’s sad, it’s frightening and it makes you wonder how long you will last before you get the cut too.
According to my husband’s boss, it might take five years before the world can recover. So what does a designer like me have to do in order to be noticed in a world full of bright, eager and young graduates?
I shouldn’t just perfect my skills. I should go above and beyond my capabilities so when the choice comes between a kick-ass designer and a normal designer with programming skills, I will get the quote.
It’s time to be more visible. And it means all types of social networking sites the Internet has to offer. They are not only for finding friends you know, but future employers as well.
Email all the clients I’ve ever worked with and ask them how they’re doing. Don’t forget to add my portfolio site to my signature so they’d know I’m still open for business.
Never burn bridges with old co-workers or that hard to work with client. You never know. Someday they or their friends, bosses, colleagues might need a website developed.
Bid, bid and bid. It never hurts to compete.

Choosing the right web hosting can be quite daunting if you have no idea what to get, what features you need, the fair price in the market, etc. But it doesn’t have to be hard. There are plenty of online resources that you can turn to when it comes to buying web hosting. One good example is the web hosting choice website. It’s a free research guide that helps users find the right web host whether it’s for their business or personal use. The site has its own learning center so you can read about the most common terminologies used in web hosting. Not sure how much bandwidth you need? Web hosting choice has a whole page all about bandwidths and more. Just by reading a few articles, you will have an idea on what you need for your site and what features you can do without so you don’t have to pay for them.
I’ve had several inquiries from other bloggers on where I am hosting my site. Whenever I tell them, I make sure to add a disclaimer that they should do their own research before signing up to the first hosting company that they’ve heard of. We all have different needs when it comes to websites.I for one needs a lot of disk space and database, access to phpmyadmin, multiple ftp accounts and cgi, perl, php capabilities so I can set up various applications for web design.

I have the worst client. Scratch that, worst is such a strong word. Let’s just say that he falls under the most commonly known clients of all time. He thinks he knows what he wants, but he doesn’t. You have converted all the pages because he already approved the mockup. After seeing the converted page, he’ll want to modify the header which includes re-slicing the graphics all over again. I thought at first that this is going to be an easy project.
First, his website’s design is so old and outdated and coded using FrontPage. Second, he was very agreeable and loved all my suggestions to take his design to the next level. I was psyched. Now this is a website I can improve on and will definitely benefit with my skills. While working on the pages however, he sends me “small changes” such as changing the header look to something that closely resembles his old one. When I’m done with that, he also wanted to change the background color of the page, the way the links open, remove the header, etc.
The final look? His old site design using new colors and photos. LOL. What a mess I’m in. I’ve already thought of cancelling the project because the remaining payment is so not worth it when you think about the stress I have to deal with. But when I think about the times that I’ve spent working on his 40++ pages and 16 online forms when I should be spending those times with my daughter, I feel that I deserve the pay and more.
I would like to be choosy when it comes to accepting projects. But when you are trying to save money, it’s just downright impossible to say no. Luckily the new quote request that I received for a POS system company is simple enough to balance the hard stuff.

I can’t believe how productive I am today. It’s only 5:28PM and I’ve already finished designing two website mockups including skinning a wordpress blog. To think I’ve spent half of the day browsing through soompi.com to get a glimpse of Coffee Prince’s behind the scenes and bloopers. I even read reviews about flash memory for two hours.
Anyway, I really feel good this month even though I’ve repeatedly complained of being overworked. Not only side projects are overflowing, but I’ve also started learning new applications – Boonex and osCommerce to upgrade my skill as a designer/developer. It’s a bit hard but I’m getting there. I feel confident to add these to my super outdated resume. That and my keeps-getting-better-CSS-coding, I feel like I can start competing with new designers again. In fact, this morning, a US-based Filipina contacted me if I can do her website for her. She said she saw my portfolio and was so impressed that she wants to meet with me when she visits this May. I was a bit embarrassed when she mentioned my portfolio because there are sites there that I’m not so proud anymore. So if you’re thinking -hey! You’re designs are not that great, I’m with you 90%. Which is why while I write this, I’m thinking of pushing some projects so I can have enough time to update my main site.
Well, I’m blabbing again. Like I said, today is just so unusual.
