All I had to do was go to thesource.ca website and see their current deals on GPS. Now that that’s done, let me share with you the latest movie that I’m dying to see. If you haven’t read the Hunger Games trilogy, then you might want to get started now. I liked how they didn’t focus on the love triangle but instead, concentrated on the survival tactics / action scenes. I hope the movie will be as good as the book unlike the other trilogy that has yet to satisfy my requirements. (cough*twilight*cough)

This week’s theme is Supernaturals. If you have seen a movie that is all about an existence beyond the scientifically visible universe, miracles, angels and demons, ghosts, magic, or even the paranormal, then come share it with us this week.

I’m not one to watch Horror movies because the scenes always stay in my head no matter how many years it has been. The last horror movie I saw was The 6th sense and after sleepless and terrifying nights due to my wild imagination, I never watched anything that’s remotely close to that genre ever again.

But I gave 1408 a chance because my husband told me it wasn’t that scary. I’m all for paranormals and the inexplicable after all. It’s the look of the dead, evil and what-not (the ring, the grudge) that really scares me.

What I love about 1408 is that I didn’t get scared of the “ghosts” but the fact that something so bad can happen to you in a room in one hour. There’s no escape, you are tortured by your own past / thoughts, and that even if you thought you’re safe and away from that room, you’d be surprised that you’re still inside and realize that there is no going out. EVER. The room will do its best to make you want to end your life than suffer another 60 minutes inside.

Makes me wonder what I will see if I was the one staying there. It plays with what’s in your mind so it’s different for every person. Glad it was a happy ending though because I wouldn’t be able to bear it if nothing good ever comes out of that film.

This week’s theme at Tuesday Couch Potatoes is Urban Legends. If you happen to know of “an often lurid story or anecdote that is based on hearsay and widely circulated as true,” and has now been popularized on the big screen, then come share it with us. Most of the stories are gory, creepy and apocryphal at best. Be prepared to be scared!

Origins: When The Texas Chain Saw Massacre hit movie theaters in 1974, it quickly supplanted the previous year’s top horror flick, The Exorcist, as “the most terrifying movie ever made.” Unlike The Exorcist, however, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre eschewed standard production values and modern special effects in favor of a grainy documentary-like approach with decidedly low-tech visual effects. The tale of five young students who unwittingly meet up with a sinister hitchhiker, the mask-wearing maniac Leatherface (whose mask is actually made from dried human skin, not leather), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre turned “a lumberjack’s tool into the stuff of nightmares and the blood-curdling scream into an art form,” in the words of Toronto Star writer Melissa Aronzyk.

The 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has been touted with the tagline “Inspired by a true story,” leading many horror fans to wonder whether the grisly film was actually based on real events, or whether the claim is simply another bit of Hollywood promotion intended to attract filmgoers via the extra-chilling lure of a macabre tale not entirely the product of a screenwriter’s imagination (a technique successfully used by the Coen brothers to entice viewers into suspending disbelief for 1996′s Fargo, their gruesome cinematic depiction of a kidnapping-for-hire scheme gone awry).

Read more at Snopes.com

This movie was scary not because it was “based on a true incident” but even if it’s not true, ghost towns are enough to make me miss a couple of nights’ sleep. Imagine reaching a town and see empty cars or traces of people being there yet wasn’t able to leave. Even scarier is seeing a lone girl walking towards you in the middle of the dessert telling you that “they are all dead.” Definitely one freak fest!

There’s LOTR, Chronicles of Narnia, Stardust to name a few. However, since we only need to choose one, I’d say nothing can beat the Harry Potter series. I’ve never really liked the movie until my daughter started showing interest. To think she was only two and a half years old that time. She enjoys watching The Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets but can also stand the scarier ones like Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire. She knows all the characters, scenes, dialogues and musical score.

If I have to pick one from the series, it would be Goblet of Fire. I love how Voldemort finally appeared and that you can feel that the battle is about to start. What I also like about HP is that the hero is very good at what he does. The main character is usually weak at first and always had to be saved by his friends / protectors. But not Harry, from the first book to 7th, he was always the one who ends up killing the villain.

Too bad the next two movies – Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince were half-baked for me.
