Jobs That Can Surely Pay for Your Rent

Posted by admin on Jan 21, 2012 in home, money matters, work

The cost of living is constantly rising, but that doesn’t mean jobs are paying any more money than they used to. If you want to be prepared to live in the 21st century, the following are some of the best jobs that can surely pay for your rent.

  • Doctor: All doctors get paid a good salary, but the highest paid doctors are surgeons and obstetricians. Anesthesiologists also do well on the pay scale, though. The medical field is a stable career choice because people are always going to get sick and need attention.
  • Dentist: Regular dentists make really good money, but orthodontists and prosthodontists bring in even more because they perform more complicated procedures.
  • Lawyer: In general, lawyers make good money, but the highest paid lawyers are class action lawyers or personal injury lawyers. This is mainly because these types of lawsuits have a higher payout than most civil cases.
  • College Professor: Professors make a lot of money, but it is slightly based on the field they teach in. For instance, medical professors do a lot better than English professors.

It doesn’t matter if you are looking at apartments in charlotte nc or Hong Kong, any job on this list will surely pay for your rent. The problem is that each of these jobs requires 8+ years of schooling and additional training beyond that. If you want a high paying job but don’t want to spend a large portion of your life in school to get there, consider the following jobs.

  • Entrepreneur: Business owners can make a lot of money, but their success depends on a wide variety of factors. Some of the highest paid individuals, like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, never graduated from college.
  • Professional Athlete: Athletes can make millions each year, which makes them some of the highest paid individuals in the workforce. Plus, a great thing about being a professional athlete is that they only have to work for a few years, and then they’re set for life. Professional athletes retire at a young age and live off of their earnings.
  • Real Estate Broker: There is a lot of money in real estate, especially if you can become good at flipping houses. It is an exciting career to pursue that can be very lucrative without countless years in school.
  • Actor/Actress: If you are good at acting, this might be the best route to fame and fortune. Good actors bring in more money each year than any of the jobs that require you to go to school. It is extremely difficult, however, to catch a break in the entertainment industry. Having connections is your best route.

Going to school is the safest route to earning a high salary, but it definitely isn’t the only option. Explore your interests and you will be able to find a career that can pay for your rent, and give you plenty of extras, too.

Babies + Labor = Push Gift

Posted by admin on Dec 14, 2011 in health, home, me, myself and i, shopping

Whenever a friend of mine is pregnant and as soon as we’ve tackled the usual baby/pregnancy/motherhood questions, I always ask if she has prepared a list for her push gift. I’m surprised that most of them have no idea what it is so if you’re one of them, let me enlighten you.

My personal definition of a push gift is something that a husband gives his wife after undergoing labor which is almost always difficult, long and life-threatening. It’s some sort of a thank you token for bringing a baby into this world. My rule for this is it has to be something that you will not buy on your own. It could be as expensive as hell or something that is very hard to acquire.

As for my youngest, the Husband bought me my first Louis Vuitton handbag (first because I believe I will have another one soon!). He gave it to me even before I gave birth which I think was the reason why I had such a hard time during labor. Anyway, having a baby is priceless but having a gift aside from the little one wouldn’t hurt too.

Flowers To Remember

Posted by admin on Oct 23, 2011 in home, me, myself and i, shopping

I was so surprised to see how big my credit card bill was today. As it turned out, we spent a lot of money on flowers baskets during our family reunion last month. We decided to do baskets this year because what else can you give to old relatives who seem to have it all? Definitely not chocolates as they need to watch their diet. Which is why these flower arrangements were the perfect choice. The oldies were so happy to receive them and touched that the “kids” (they still see us that way) remembered them. Anyway, the flowers are lovely and definitely worth their price.

Low Reception

Posted by admin on Sep 5, 2011 in home, technology

The husband will not stop complaining about his phone’s network that I’ve started wondering if a wireless cellular booster could help. Unlike our friends and co-workers, we are not fans of changing mobile numbers any chance we can get. So rather than moving to another network, he’ll probably buy a new sim card and still keep his old number. Who knew who could be contacting him from the past? Seriously, a friend of ours managed to find a long lost friend – not via Facebook, I tell you, but because he hasn’t changed his number for the last 10 years. How cool is that? But I digress. We really need a signal booster not just for our mobiles but for our cable Internet too.

Cold is Here

Posted by admin on Aug 20, 2011 in home, me, myself and i

The BER months are one week away. Knowing my tolerance for the cold, I’m already planning to bring out MY electric blanket. I typed MY because weird as it seems, I am the only one in the family who gets cold during Christmas season. My husband and two kids are happy as clams. These three, even with the airconditioning on still gets a little sweaty during summer so the cold weather will be very much welcome to them.

Benefits for All

Posted by admin on Jun 12, 2011 in home, money matters

Thanks to social security benefits, my friend got two months worth of salary during after she gave birth. She lost her job a year ago and has been working as a freelancer when she got pregnant. It has been a while since she made her last social security payments. And although her husband is working enough for them, we all know it helps to have some extra cash lying around. I urged her to continue with her contributions and she decided to pay for the next 6 months. Now, to her husband’s surprise, the maternity benefits will be enough to cover the hospital bills. The money they saved for the hospitalization will now be used for a small celebration on their little one’s baptism.

New Floors

Posted by admin on May 24, 2011 in home

I am trying to achieve this kind of laminate flooring for our master bedroom for the longest time. I know I could get discount supplies but the problem lies within finding the right contractors. I don’t want to go into what happened during our latest renovation in the kitchen but let’s just say that we learned our lesson. Not all cheap our good, especially if it shows on the workmanship.

Invitation. Check.

Posted by admin on May 20, 2011 in home, me, myself and i

Finally! I managed to accomplish one task on my to-do list. I’ve started downloading Mickey Mouse Clubhouse photos that I can use for my daughter’s birthday invitations. Her party is on June 12th so I need to distribute the invites on the last weekend of May. Luckily, most of the guests confirmed two weeks ago when I emailed them my Save the Date. I’m glad finding the right images are simple, thanks to the Internet. Of course, I made sure that the images that I will use have the proper license. I’ll be using them as a background only and will keep the focus on my daughter’s photo and styled text.

Speaking of Mickey Mouse, I found this online (it says Nicole’s Cakes) and just loved the design! I love how all the characters are present and not just Mickey. I’m definitely going to use this color scheme for our balloons and linens.

Been There. Done That.

Posted by admin on May 5, 2011 in home, me, myself and i, women issues

It’s been awhile since I’ve heard of promise ring finger. In fact, if I remember correctly, the last time I heard and used it was when I was 15. Anyway, during last week’s dinner, a friend of mine told me how she saw a ring on her 12-year-old daughter. She married young, by the way, so we are not that old yet! She was so shocked but asked in a nonchalant way what it was for and who gave it to her. When her daughter replied that it came from her boyfriend as a promise that they will get married when they turn 25, she was suddenly taken back to the time when all she did was hang out with boys and do things that will make any parent crazy. (which is why she got married young)

Right then and there, she turned into a momzilla, grounded her daughter and just basically ruin their week or months, depending on how it turns out. Now that she’s thinking clearly, she realized that she shouldn’t have acted that way. What she should’ve done was talk to her and explain that she’s too young to be thinking of such things. I couldn’t blame her though. Parenting is hard. You may think you have it all down pat but one unexpected act could make you forget what Oprah, Dr. Phil or any of those new-age celebrities preach.
