10 Things on Your “To-Do” List

Posted by admin on Apr 27, 2009 in home, online life

Saw this from an old Ten on Tuesday entry. I was relieved to know that there are people out there who have a million things on their list and yet none of them ever gets crossed out. And if ever you’re lucky enough to remove two or three from the list, there are twenty more waiting to be added.

So without further ado —

1. Organize my growing collection of movies and mp3 songs. I’ve accumulated enough titles that my hardisk is getting crowded already. Time to move them to their own DVDs.

2. Organize digital photos, burn to DVDs and make two copies each.

3. Organize important papers including bills, invoices and warranties.

4. Start living a healthy life. Eat healthy food, exercise and read about colon cleanses.

5. Sign up for a hip hop / aerobics class to lose weight in a fun and healthy way.

6. Design a new portfolio website. Something that I can call “The One”.

7. Master Joomla (a CMS tool) since most projects that I accept now require CMS capabilities.

8. Start checking out housing loans again.

9. Go on a beach trip before the storm season.

10. Plan my birthday “parties” for next month.

I can’t blog let alone work today. Half of the day is almost finished and yet I’m nowhere close to accomplishing anything. I shouldn’t have finished that movie last night, now I not only look like a raccoon but I also need at least 3 hours more of sleep. The movie was very good so it’s all worth it. My heart is still heavy just remembering the scenes which is also the reason why I can’t design anything yet. I guess I’ll wake myself up by browsing through Wilmington NC real estate listings to remind myself too that I need to work so we can buy our dream house soon. House construction is all I can think about lately and it doesn’t help that most of my website projects now are from builders and real estate agencies.

Bored at Work

Posted by admin on Apr 23, 2009 in work

The term boring when used with my work has two levels. One is the I-can-do-it-in-my-sleep kind of boring. This is when my task doesn’t require thinking, mostly just copy and paste or very easy admin work. The other one is the what-the-hell-am-I-doing kind. This one is harder because it’s not only my eyes that won’t cooperate but my brain shuts down automatically. Plus I suffer anxieties of not being able to complete my work and meet my deadline. So if I have to choose between writing about Mesothelioma lawyers and coding a one page website, I’d choose the latter. Even if it takes longer and equally boring, at least I can finish it without worrying if I’m doing a great job.

Still Unproductive

Posted by admin on Apr 20, 2009 in me, myself and i

Wow, it has been two hours and I haven’t done anything productive. However, I’ve visited all celebrity blogs on my bookmark and browsed through the first ten pages of Photoshop Disasters. It didn’t help that I’ve been chatting with my friend from Singapore nonstop too. Still, two hours is not a lot if I start working now. Only I don’t feel creative so I might as well take the first half of the day away from work doing nonsense things so I can remove it from my system.

I do sound like Bridget Jones here from where she was trying to write a very important article. Put off work for a couple of hours and you’d be surprise that you only have a few minutes left to finish it. This is the problem when working from home, too many distractions.

Time to Be Happy

Posted by admin on Apr 20, 2009 in web sites, women issues

My friend, who is a single mom confided in me how it’s hard to join the dating scene. She said once people find out that she has a kid, they either stop caling or worse, avoid her like a plague. I told her they are probably jerks and that she can’t do without them. However, reality is I don’t know a lot of guys who’d be willing to date a single mom. So I was thrilled when I came across LocalSingleMoms.com, a single mother dating site that helps single parents find someone to hang out with whether for fun or for something more serious. It’s free too so you won’t lose any money if you don’t like the system. You may not find the love of your life, but you’d definitely gain friends that you’ll have in common with.

Be a Certified Professional

Posted by admin on Apr 20, 2009 in technology, web sites, work

Competition is always tough in the IT industry what with technology being updated every year. So if you want to get ahead, consider getting certifications. QuickCert offers several programs that can help you get certified whether you’re looking for a COMPTIA, EC-Council, Cicso or Microsoft Certification. With their expert instructor-led training, self-study format with user controls, QuickCert have managed to replicate the classroom experience anywhere you are. The best thing of all aside from labs, exercises and practice exams is that QuickCert guarantees that they will get you certified.

I’m personally considering getting a certification on Web Development because there’s no better way to validate your skill sets the way a certification can. It will not only help you staying afloat with your current company but it could broaden your horizons when you decide to move to greener pastures.

Gossip Girl Spin Off?

Whenever I watch Gossip Girl and see Lily and Rufus, I can’t help but wish that someone will make another TV show just about them. My wish has been granted except I was sort of hoping that the younger version will be played by the real Lily (Kelly Rutherford). I’m not really crazy about Brittany Snow because Lily is such a very classy socialite. And Brittany has been known to play “white trash” characters. But who knew what really happened twenty years ago eh? I just hope the younger Rufus will be as hot but I haven’t seen any information online who will play him. Read more here.

Maybe?

Posted by admin on Apr 20, 2009 in home, me, myself and i, money matters

We found a small lot that we’re thinking of buying. However, we have no budget yet for the house construction so we’re planning of putting up a fence to secure the area. When I asked a friend who recently had a pvc fence installation, I was shocked to know that we’ll have to spend more money that I’ve originally planned. But since I’ve always been a fan of pvc fencing, then maybe we can adjust. At least, even if the house is not yet up, a nice picket fence will protect the lot from intruders. Still a great start right?

I’m pretty excited but I’m not very hopeful. Whenever we find something that we really like, it either ends up being taken away by another buyer or else, something’s wrong with the papers.  My attitude now is that if it’s really for us, then everything should work out just fine.
