It’s Thanksgiving in the US so no one is online in our chat software but me. It’s the greatest feeling in the world, aside giving birth, winning the lottery, flying to Paradise, getting married.
Seriously, I’ve never been this excited to start my day. I always say that I work well with a team but I realized that I can finish a lot when I know that no one’s checking on me every now and then. Whether for progress, questions, additional tasks, I’d like all correspondence to be over when I start working. This is why my usual working schedule starts around 11AM when everyone is leaving for work on the other side of the world. I got everything I need then and all that’s left to do is turn on my iPod and get ready to code. I’m all about coding these days. No designing which oddly enough I’m very thankful for. Why add another stress to the already stressful schedule right?
So my goal today is this. Enjoy the space. Do what I can to finish my tasks but leave some time to work on creative stuff as well. It’s so rare that I get a chance like this. Might as well take advantage and start working on a photobook.

Oooh the perks of having to work from home. My client/friend just called me and asked if I’d like to meet up for lunch instead of dinner. He has my laptop already so I immediately said yes. Of course, I’d still meet up with him even without the laptop but maybe not as fast.
Anyway, back to perks. If I’m working in a real office, I wouldn’t have time to go out and do whatever I want, anytime I want. I only had to wait for my boss to log off and sleep (it’s night time in the US) so I can get ready to leave. I love not having a strict schedule! Aside from having the freedom to do things on my own pace, I find that I work better if I know that no one’s waiting for me to finish. This is why my favorite time of the day is 1PM-onwards because I’m the only one online on our Jabber chat.

Positive. Positive. Trying to be surround myself with positive thoughts this week. To start off, I found several work from home opportunities that I will blog about in the next few days or so. Most of them are available for US residents only but there are one or two that’s available worldwide.
Another positive thought. Less work. I’m cutting down my time spent on the computer since I started feeling this unbearable pain on my wrist. Well I haven’t started yet, but I will try to do that today. I’m online from 7AM-9:30PM daily which explains why my laptop always gives up on me. I’m hoping to log off by 7PM or at least, get off working and start doing something creative like a photobook for the family. But that’s not resting right? We’ll see. Cooling down is a new thing for me seeing as I’m always up and running.
Trouble at the old company has finally been resolved. Might still have work from them even if I’ve already found a new job. Aherm. There goes my "less work" plan. But to be fair to myself, I’ve been declining side projects for the last three weeks even though my heart tells me not to. I just couldn’t handle the stress anymore. And if I’m being honest, I think I can do without working with those clients anyway. They are not exactly clients from hell but they’re so close to being one, I don’t want to be around when they cross over.

Just discovered these today. Amazing artworks of all kind.

They are so inspiring and the best part is that they are so cheap! I’m planning to buy two or three and spread them around my work area to keep the creative juices flowing.

Finally I was able to install Windows Live Writer. I’ve been trying unsuccessfully for weeks and starting to feel that the app is a letdown. But this morning, to my surprise, it didn’t give me the "Failed to Install" message. Which is now why I’m blogging via Live Writer. It’s so easy and convenient, I couldn’t ask for any better app.
The Good, so far:
1. Create posts on multiple blogs using just one window.
2. The ability to insert hyperlink, picture, tables, map, tags and videos
3. Add a plugin if you want to
4. Save drafts, check spelling
5. View in Normal Layout, Web Preview, and HTML code
So now there’s no reason why I shouldn’t write what I’m thinking. I have this tendency to put off the things that I want to blog about because I find switching from one window / blog platform to another too tasking. Now all I need to do is click on my Live Writer shortcut and I can write and post in no time. Thank God for that.
Oh, if there’s one thing to improve, I’d love a word count plugin. Maybe they have that already?

In relation to blog hacking, here are the steps on how you can back up your WP blog.
Make sure you do this weekly so just in case something bad happens, you’ll only lose a week, not years of memories.
Your database
1. If you have a Cpanel or something similar, go to your Databases section and click on PhpMyAdmin.
2. Select the database name that you used for your blog by clicking on it. You should see the list of tables for your database.
3. Click the Export link and check ‘Save as file’ to download your database and save it on your local.
Your wordpress files
All that you need is in the wp-contents folder. Every file that you upload using the WP dashboard is stored at /wp-contents/uploads/. Your plugins and themes are also stored under the wp-contents folder so make sure you make a back up of the whole wp-contents folder.
Via WP Dashboard
1. Go to Manage > Export
2. Click Download Export File
3. Save the *.xml on your local computer
Now you’ve successfully backed up your blog. Usually, only the last part (Via WP Dashboard) is the only thing that you need but if you’re moving to a new host or restoring a site, you’ll need to upload your old wp-contents folder as well.
When the time comes that you need to use these backups:
1. Just make a clean install of the latest version of Wordpress using those one click installs or manually if you prefer.
2. Once your new blog is up, go to Manage > Import > Select Wordpress from the list. Find the *.xml file that you downloaded before and click submit. All your blog postings, tags, categories, comments should will now be imported.
3. To restore your old blog’s look and feel, just upload the whole wp-contents folder to your new wp-contents folder. This will upload all plugins, themes and photos from your old blog.
4. Go to Design and select the theme that you want and activate all desired plugins.

Just a word of warning to all my blogger friends. My other blog and two other blogs that I know were hacked by this Arab website. I don’t want to mention the site here for fear that it might attract their attention. It was a very disheartening moment knowing my files will never be recovered. Luckily, I was planning to move to another hosting so I made a back up of my database and wordpress files that morning. The blog was hacked around 8PM so I only lost two to three posts.
As for the two blogs, one of them was designed by me so I immediately imagined re-coding everything from scratch. Thank God the hosting had a back up. It didn’t stop there, though. When all the sites were back up, it was hacked again by the same group, about five hours after I’m done restoring the themes. I was close to hacking them myself but I didn’t want to expose my machine to any more vulnerability. In short, we’ve all decided to move to a new hosting just in case they found a hole in the current server that we’re in.
