Affordable Shopping

Posted by admin on Aug 22, 2010 in shopping

My daughters’ party is in two weeks and I badly need a new outfit. I decided to check out this web site selling closeout clothing and was surprised to see how nice the selections are. And did I mention cheap? That’s my main requirement these days but only if it doesn’t look “low-cost” on me. A very impossible feat considering the materials but I can always hope.

I saw some nice peep-toe wedges too which will I’m sure will look great on skinny jeans and some of my summer dresses. And yes, they are dirt cheap.  This fact usually makes me excited but after several bad experiences with affordable footwear, I’m a little worried if paying less would only cause blisters on my feet. We shall see!

All Insured

Posted by admin on Aug 17, 2010 in health, home, money matters

Just received three term life insurance quotes online for my parents via email. I’m so glad the Internet was discovered or else I’d still be visiting several agencies just to get a simple quote. Now all I need to do is compare all of the benefits and hopefully make a decision before the year ends. They are all surprisingly affordable but I’m still weighing in the advantages of getting a full term. I would’ve gotten a full term if only I wasn’t still paying for my two daughters’ pension plans and our car insurance. We got so many obligations annually that I don’t count out Christmas bonuses anymore knowing most of them will go to our insurance anyway. But I’m not complaining as I know that it’s all for the family’s sake.

Friends with Money

Posted by admin on Aug 14, 2010 in me, myself and i, women issues

I never knew a hot tub cover could cost so much. A friend bought one last week after discovering that their spa cover got broken for inexplicable reasons. She talked of buying one as if she was discussing getting a set of cookie jars for a dollar a piece. But when I checked the web site she showed me, a “cover” can cost you from $250-$380. I guess that’s how rich she has become. Sometimes she forgets that she’s talking to mere mortals such as I who still waits for paychecks every month before we can even afford a nice weekend getaway. One thing’s for sure, she’s still generous as ever. She even volunteered in taking care of my youngest party but as much as I love her, I declined. After all, it’s one of the things I’ve been saving up on ever since I got pregnant.

Single Life

Posted by admin on Aug 8, 2010 in travel, women issues, work

After browsing through several medical job listings, I’ve finally convinced my cousin that there’s a career waiting for her in Chicago. The number of job openings for health related jobs are so many it’s impossible for her not to find one that she likes. With this fact, I’m hoping it will be enough for her to make a decision if she’ll join her longtime partner or not. It’s been a year since they’ve been apart and really need to take the next step.

Since her partner has already started building an empire for his web development business, it’s really just up to my cousin whether she’ll want a new life in Chicago or stay where she is and forget about a future with him. I’m rooting for her to move for several reasons. Her current job, as she plainly puts it, is not exactly a dream. She is single and childless so has no responsibilities whatsoever that could tie her down. She loves him and he could be the one if she chooses to. All she really has to do is pack up and move now that her chances of getting a job is high. Who knows, even if the relationship doesn’t work, it’s still a new city and there are plenty of possibilities waiting to happen.

Shopping For Footwear

Posted by admin on Aug 7, 2010 in shopping

Oh man! Guess what I got from the mail today? An email from a friend alerting me about shoebuy coupons. I am trying not to spend money until September but with these hard to resist coupons, I may just give in. After all, I really need new pairs of shoes after growing a half of an inch on my shoe size because of the pregnancy. I’ve been dying to get a pair of REVA ballerina flats but since the budget is limited, I’ll have to settle for something that doesn’t cost a two-week’s grocery. ;) I will post here my options as soon as I’m done browsing through the site.

Project Dress Up

Posted by admin on Aug 2, 2010 in fashion, shopping

The first thing that I will do as soon as I get back into shape is to shop for new clothes. I’ve already lost 30lbs upon giving birth but still need to lose 15lbs more. These dresses from Forever21 will inspire me to eat healthy and exercise so I can finally reach  my weight goal. After all, you can’t wear any of these if you don’t have killer thighs, can you?

The Real Slim PC Please Stand Up

Posted by admin on Aug 1, 2010 in technology, work

image I am so glad I came across this website about computer reviews. My mom is looking to buy a laptop but her budget is very limited. Thanks to this review site, her choices are now down to HP Pavilion and Acer Timeline series.

As for me, I’ve been looking for an affordable desktop for so long because I want to give my Dell Studio 17 a break. I’ve seen the slimline series of HP in the mall recently and I just love how it can fit my computer table. As for the monitor, I’m looking at Samsungs Syncmaster 23″ or ACER’s 22″ Widescreen. All the items I mentioned have great ratings so it’s just up to me if all of them will fit my budget and my table.

Security at Home

Posted by admin on Jul 28, 2010 in home

My mother-in-law have been missing a few bills from her wallet almost every other day. She wasn’t sure who to blame because there are so many people living in the house. There’s us, my youngest brother-in-law and the helpers. Since it’s been happening frequently, I told her to get one of those affordable security cameras for her room. That way, the culprit will be scared to do it again and we can use it to check on my kids whenever they want to play in their grandmother’s room. On another note, I hope that she’s just misplacing her bills. If someone’s really stealing from her, it will cause a lot of conflict in the house and that’s something we can do without.

Getting Old

Posted by admin on Jul 28, 2010 in home, me, myself and i

One thing that my uncle would appreciate now is roadside assistance plan if he wants to keep everyone in the family safe. He just purchased an RV, much to his oldest daughter’s dismay (she wanted a timeshare instead) and already planning on several trips for next week alone. I do think it’s pretty cool the way you can bring your entire “home” everywhere you go. Plus they have so many parks and RV camps a couple of hours where they live that I’m sure they’ll make the most out of their very expensive purchase.

I envy him actually. I want to be able to buy something as frivolous when the time comes for retirement. Not exactly an RV but more like a vacation house or another property away from the city. It is where my husband and I can settle, watching the sunset and the stars afterwards, without the pollution and noise. The kids and grandkids can come visit us and we’ll have plenty of barbecue parties and reunions during the holiday season.
